Staff

Tutoring Plus has three full-time employees, a Middle School Tutoring Fellow (Americorps Volunteer), a part-time site manager, and several part-time work-stufy students. Through our partnership with the Work Force, three teacher counselors serve as high school site managers. In addition, Tutoring Plus relies on over 200 volunteer tutors and mentors.

Meet our staff below:

Ellen McLaughlin, Executive Director
Ellen has been with Tutoring Plus since May 2006. She has over 25 years of experience in education and management, bringing an exceptional array of skills to her role. Ellen began her career teaching special needs and at-risk children in New York and Massachusetts public schools for 13 years. She then served as an education specialist assisting parents of special needs children across the country with school selection, residential placement, and developing relationships with schools and teachers. Ellen then spent 10 years as a project manager for software companies, where she gained experience in strategic leadership and day-to-day operational management, before returning to education and taking her current position at Tutoring Plus.

Sarah Morin, Director of Programs and Volunteer Services
Sarah joined the Tutoring Plus staff early in 2008, and became Director of Programs and Volunteer Services in 2011. She previously worked in law, architecture, and real estate before deciding to join the non-profit sector. While in her role as manager of volunteers, Sarah more than doubled the number of tutors volunteering with Tutoring Plus, allowing us to accept more students and match each of them one-on-one with an individual tutor.

Sarah graduated from Boston University in 2005 with a degree in political science, where she also studied public relations and business management. Originally from southern NH, Sarah has been living in the Boston area since her graduation. Outside of the office Sarah hikes with her dogs Moomba and Capt. Awesome, plays soccer, and is currently training for her first triathlon.

Minh Nguyen, Program Manager
Minh started at Tutoring Plus in 2010 through the Massachusetts Promise Fellowship, an AmeriCorps program hosted through Northeastern University. Minh served two years with Mass. Promise, gaining youth development, program management, and workshop development and facilitation skills. Minh will be managing the middle school tutoring nights at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy, as well as the Youth Leadership Plus Program and Tutoring Plus's social media sites.

Minh graduated from Oberlin College in 2008 with a psychology degree and enjoys working with middle school students in an educational setting. In her spare time, Minh enjoys being a math nerd, playing tennis, and hanging out with her pet hedgehog, Kiwi.

Kevin Wetmore , Middle School Tutoring Fellow
Kevin Wetmore is a Massachusetts Promise Fellow and AmeriCorps Volunteer serving with Tutoring Plus for the 2011-2012 year. Last year Kevin served as a City Year Boston corps member at the Maurice J. Tobin K-8 school in Roxbury, MA. There, Kevin assisted a teacher in a 5th grade classroom during school hours and helped to facilitate an after-school program with his City Year team that focused on homework assistance and enrichment activities for grades 3-5.

At Tutoring Plus, Kevin will be managing the expansion of two Middle School Tutoring Centers, designing curriculum based activities for after-school programs, and developing a relationship within the schools and the community.

In 2009, Kevin graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in journalism. In his free time, Kevin is a film-geek and a die-hard Red Sox fan. He is also an avid Wiffleball player and participates in several competitive tournaments each year.
