Staff
Tutoring Plus employs two full-time directors (the executive director and the director of programs and volunteer services), a volunteer coordinator, two part-time site managers, and three site managers through the Work Force partnership. In addition, Tutoring Plus relies on over 140 volunteer tutors and mentors.
Meet our staff below:
Ellen McLaughlin, Executive Director
Ellen has been with Tutoring Plus since May 2006. She has over 25 years of experience in education and management, bringing an exceptional array of skills to her role. Ellen began her career teaching special needs and at-risk children in New York and Massachusetts public schools for 13 years. She then served as an education specialist assisting parents of special needs children across the country with school selection, residential placement, and developing relationships with schools and teachers. Ellen then spent 10 years as a project manager for software companies, where she gained experience in strategic leadership and day-to-day operational management, before returning to education and taking her current position at Tutoring Plus.
Roscoe Thomas, Director of Programs and Volunteer Services
Roscoe Thomas joined the staff of Tutoring Plus in August 2008 and brings with him experience from 15 years as an organizer at City Year Boston.
Roscoe will be responsible for the development, operation, and assessment of nine tutoring centers and enrichment programs serving students in grades 4-12. He will oversee the management of volunteers, maintain strategic partnerships with local service organizations, and foster relationships with students and families.
Most recently Roscoe was the dean of City Year Boston where he cultivated and developed community partnerships and citizen engagement opportunities that bridged school and community with a goal of fostering collaborative solutions to the challenges of social justice and education. Roscoe also served as a mentor, coach, and advisor to City Year staff members around the United States and even reaching to South Africa.
Roscoe is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to joining City Year, he worked in the Criminal Justice System providing incarcerated youth with remedial reading and social skills training. Roscoe also co-chairs the board of directors of the City-Wide Dialogues on Boston’s Ethnic & Racial Diversity.
Roscoe has dedicated his life to the service of others, and believes that “service is the rent we pay for living on this earth.”
Sarah Morin, Manager of Volunteer Services
Sarah joined the Tutoring Plus staff early in 2008. She previously worked as an office administrator and assistant marketing director in the fields of law, architecture, and real estate before deciding to join the non-profit sector. Her well-rounded background has made her an integral part of developing the manager of volunteers position.
Sarah graduated from Boston University in 2005 with a degree in political science, where she also studied public relations and business management. Originally from southern NH, Sarah has been living in the Boston area since her graduation. She is an avid cyclist and participates in several charity rides a year.
Kerry Nicolas Bouffioux, Site Manager and Marketing Coordinator
Kerry joined Tutoring Plus thanks to the Americorps*VISTA and Massachusetts Campus Compact programs during the late summer of 2008. As the Americorps service term came to a close, Kerry stayed on staff and is in his second year as the site manager at King Open and Cambridgeport Middle School tutoring centers.
Kerry grew up outside Dayton, OH and earned a B.A. in Business Administration from Otterbein College outside of Columbus, OH. During his youth he spent many years volunteering through different organizations and joined Americorps in 2008, which brought him to Tutoring Plus. When not managing sites with Tutoring Plus he is coordinating publicity for the Fletcher-Maynard Academy and watching or playing as much soccer as he can.
