1:1 Tutoring + Mentoring Program

Through our 1:1 Tutoring + Mentoring Program, youth in grades 4-8 engage with a researched social emotional and critical consciousness curriculum in a large group with their peers, receive individualized academic support from volunteers, and foster positive connections with peers and adults.

Frequently Asked Questions

    1. The first step is to fill out our Student Application.

    2. Once you complete it, you will see a link to sign documents via DocuSign.

    3. Then, Tutoring Plus staff will reach out to you to schedule a Listening Conference, our way to get to know your child, their learning style and personality. We will also speak with parents to understand what you are looking to get out of the program and how you would like us to communicate with you.

    4. Once we have a volunteer match for your child, you will receive a Program Confirmation email with details for your first day!

  • Nothing! All Tutoring Plus programs are provided free of charge to students and families.

  • All programs take place in trusted community spaces across Cambridge, including schools and community rooms in resident complexes.

  • No, we are unable to provide transportation to and from programs.

  • We provide healthy snacks at all our programs, ranging from granola bars and fruit to sandwiches. All snacks are nut-free and we also offer halal-friendly and vegetarian options.

  • The majority of our volunteer tutors are young professionals who live or work near Cambridge. In addition, many undergraduate and graduate students from local universities volunteer with us. All volunteers are screened and trained and also receive ongoing support from staff.

  • We expect parents to have open and timely communication with us around attendance, their child’s needs, and any other issues relevant to programs. Additionally, we invite parents to come in to visit programs at any time and to attend our potluck parties at the end of each semester!
